Francis Buchan, Hon.

   Hon. Alastair Francis Buchan was educated at Eton College, Eton, Berkshire, England. He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England. He gained the rank of MAjor in the service of the 14th Canadian Hussars. He fought in the Second World War. He was invested as a Member, Order of the British Empire (M.B.E.) in 1945. He was assistant editor of the Economist between 1948 and 1951. He was correspondent for the Observer between 1951 and 1955 at Washington, D.C., U.S.A.. He was diplomatic and defence correspondent between 1955 and 1958. He was Director of the Institute of Strategic Studies between 1958 and 1969. He was invested as a Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1968. He was Professor of International Relations between 1974 and 1976 at Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.
