In the 1840 Census I found a Francis Ellison living in Jackson Co. I wonder if he was related?
In the Atlanta archives I found these two notices:
1) Cpt Francis Ellison, Gwinnett Co, apr 13 1820 - Nov 20 1823. MB 1808 - 1829 Pg 52.
2) Cpt Francis Ellison, Walton Co, apr 28 1828 - may 1832. MB 1808- 1829. Pg 198.
if I remember right, our Capp was named that by his father Samuel Ellison at birth. & you'd think he was named after a close relative that was admired.
Another tidbit from the Atlanta Archives:
Lt Francis Laye, Col Commandant of the 5th Battalion Royal of Artillery in Battle of Bunker Hill, he was severely wounded in battle of Camden. He died Jan 2 1828 in Ellison Place, his residence, New Castle upon Tyne Gr 4-5-1820.
If only we knew the stories behind these tidbits, I'm sure there would be connections. Francis Ellison was found in the 1870 Wood Co Census being 35 yrs old, born in 1835. With Melissa J (Jane?) Herring, 22 yrs old, born in 1848 in Tx. In their home was Samuel H Ellison, 13 B Tx 1857 - the year the Ellisons supposedly came to Tx - mother Kenzadie. Francis A Ellison (F), B Tx 1861; Mary E 4, B Tx 1866; Eliza, 3, B Tx 1867; Arizona B Tx 1869.
