Francis C. Richmond

Francis C. Richmond was born at the Richmond Family Farm in Louisville, St. Lawrence, New York. His father John Richmond was from Yorkshire, England, and his mother was born in Ireland. The family had ten sons and one daughter. The family members were devoted Catholics. When the Civil War came, several sons volunteered. Frank also volunteered, but his brother William refused to allow it. William felt strongly that it was Frank's duty to remain with his wife and care for their aging parents and younger siblings. William worked a deal with the local military officers and had Frank's enlistment revoked. Frank was married to Catherine Mea sometime before 1860. The couple lived near Frank's parents and helped run the farm. In 1881, Catherine passed away at Louisville. Most of Frank's brothers had moved West by that time. Frank moved out to Mt. Pleasant, Isabella, Michigan, in 1882, to join several family members who were living there at the time. On 15 June 1891, Frank married Mary Ryan. Mary had also previously been married to a man surnamed O'Leary. For Christmas 1912, Frank went to Grand Rapids, Michigan, to visit a daughter. He developed pneumonia and passed away at the home of his daughter on Tuesday, January 14, 1913. His remains were taken to Waddington, New York, for burial beside his first wife. Frank and Catherine were the parents of Mary, William, Margaret, Francis first), Francis (second), James, and John (Jack).
