About Francis Marion Shearer

Francis Marion Shearer was born in Guernsey County, OH in 1835, later moving with his family to Keithsburg, Illinois. In May of 1862 he enlisted at Suez, Illinois, joining Company D, 83rd Infantry of the Illinois Volunteers. After his company was sent to garrison duty at Fort Donelson, he contracted measles and died March 7, 1863, leaving behind his wife Martha Ann (Spence) Shearer and children Robert, Thomas, Mary Catharine and Warren, all of Keithsburg.
