______________________
In 1659, his parents moved from Falmouth to Sebascadegan the largest island in Casco Bay where his father had previously established a trading post.
He was the first child born of English parents on Great Sebascadegan. Due to the Smalles early residence there, the island was commonly referred to as Smalle's Island. This area is now a summer resort for the city dwellers who live down the New England coast. After a year's residence on the island the family returned to Falmouth.
