About Francis Sidney Smith
Was a carpenter who put his name in the ballot for a farm at the end of the First World War. He won a farm in Otane, later he moved to a farm further up the road.
Was a contrary man who would not allow his wife to have the grandchildren visit, i.e. Sonia, Russell, etc. Emily would visit Dolly (Dorothea), her daughter, in Napier on Chaucer Rd when they were visiting Dolly (their Aunt).
When he retired he sold the farm and moved to Taupo. He had had a falling out with Grandpop, thus Grandpop did not take over the farm.
