FRANCIS WATKINS was born November 30, 1842 and served in 20th Tennessee Infantry, C.S.A. until disabled by wounds, battle of Shiloh Civil War.

He first joined with Company D. of the 1st Tennessee Infantry Regiment, CSA on 9 May 1861 in Franklin, TN. He was the youngest son of Fountain Branch Carter whose home was the center of the Battle of Franklin. His older brothers Moscow and Todd were chosen to be officers of the 20th TN Infantry so Francis transferred to that regiment in July 1861. He was severely wounded at Shiloh and discharged. His brother Moscow was captured and paroled and his other brother Todd would die on the family farm at the Battle of Franklin. After war he moved to South America for a while and then moved to San Francisco, CA where he died in 1923.
