Francois 'Fransie' Swart (1997 - 2018)

Brief overview:

Fransie (21), was shot in the neck twice, when he stopped to buy cold drinks with a friend, at a Lichtenburg petrol station shop, on 9th May 2018.

His mother, Kristi van Rooyen, said the two friends saw two men arguing with the cashier while they were waiting to pay. One of the males turned around, walked towards Fransie and shot him twice at close range in the neck without saying anything.

Fransie was transferred to the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital where he was placed into a medically induced coma. On 29th May 2018 at 14h30, Fransie's heart stopped beating. Kristi said that the doctors attempted to resuscitate him, but were unable to.

  • 19/01/2020: Two and a half years later after the armed robbery Abraham Abebel Enrico (32), was taken into custody after being found at a taxi rank by investigators on 20th December 2020. He is now facing charges of murder. It is suspected that he had been hiding out in Lichtenburg 190km from the Incident.
  • One of the other accused suspects, Jude Nnana Aghabanti( 42), a Nigerian was taken into custody on an unrelated charge, which then linked him to the shooting.

  • Colonel Adele Myburgh, spokesperson for the police said that Enrico has since been arrested and detained. **The case has already been postponed twice and it is not clear when he will appear in court again.
