Research Notes:

1.Although he was baptized as Francois Tryphille Jolin, the name on his marriage record to Eleonore Simoneau was Francois Zephirin Jolin. There is no explanation as to why he used Zephirin as his middle name in his marriage record.

2.Tryphille matches the name "Treffle" found in certain records of his children. The name "Treffle" appeared in his daughter's Adelaide's 1860 Baptism record, in his son's Theodule civil marriage record to Delima LaCroix in 1903, and his daughter's Amanda 1925 death certifcate. The name "Treffley" appeared in his daughter's Adeline's 1918 death record. (The name "Zepherin" appeared in his daughter's Marie Adeline 1858 Baptism.)

3.Marie Adeline, Marie Adelaide, Marie Lucias (Lucy), Delvina and Joseph were married at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Littleton, Grafton County, New Hampshire.

According to the 1900 US Federal Census for South Street in Littleton, Grafton County, New Hampshire, Adelaide Jolin (Sylvestre) lived next door to her younger sister Lucy ("Coyer") Carrier and Lucy's sister in law Caroline Carrier (Belanger) lived on the other side of them. Moreover, Adelaide and Lucy Jolin's 's older sister Adeline Jolin (Dion dit Young), and their younger brother Joseph Jolin also lived on South Street. According to the 1900 Census ,Caroline Carrier and Medrick Carrier's Aunt Leocade Carrier (Longchanps) lived on South Street too.

The 1900 Census indicated that each of them had two or more children all of whom were born in the United States, primarily in New Hampshire.

Adelaide Jolin (Sylvestre) and her family moved back to Quebec circa 1903 and according to the 1911 Federal Canadian Census were living in Montreal. In early 1918 the family moved to Berlin, Coos County, New Hampshire. Alelaide's husband Victor, 1854-1937, who was a resident of Berlin for 20 years, is buried in St. Anne's Cemetery in Berlin. Adelaide who died in 1940 is also buried at St. Anne's.

4.Delvina's birth date extrapolated from her death record. Delvina's name on her death record is Boisvert, a dit name for Greenwood. She died in Danville, Rockingham County, New Hampshire and was buried at St. Jean's Cemetery in Lynn, Essex County, Massachusetts. She was a resident of Danville for two years. Her prior residence was in Lynn.

5.A duplicate Baptism record for Marie Rose Odile was found at St. Charles Borromee, Garthby, Wolfe, Quebec. The birth and baptism dates are identical to those found earlier at St. Anges, Ham-Nord, Wolfe, Quebec. It is believed that the priest served several parishes in this newly settled area and inadvertently recorded the baptism twice.

6.Could not locate a death/burial record for Napoleon, Joseph whose last known residence was Littleton, Ludger, Marie Cordelie and Theodule. Theoodule's post 1956 death date was established by a photo of him and certain family members taken in 1956 and posted at http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2357055980069900682asRmFx by his great-granddaughter Pamela Canfield. Moreover, could not locate a marriage record for Napoleon, who according to the 1891 Federal Canadian Census was single and living with his parents, and Ludger. Since these children were listed in either the or both of the 1881 and 1891 Canadian Federal Censuses, we know that they did not die as infants.

7.Francois Jolin's death record could not be located. In the 1910 US Federal Census for Biddeford, Maine, there is a Francois Jolin listed as 80 years old, the right age to be my great grandmother Lucias (Lucy)Jolin's father, and as the father in law of Albert Bean (Lefebrve) whose wife "Mand" was the right age to be Lucias' sister Amanda. Amanda married Hubert Lefebvre on October 5, 1891 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Biddeford, Maine. The surname Bean is the English version of the surname Lefebvre and the given names Albert and Hubert were used interchangeably (the H is not pronounced in French). Thus, this is the same couple that Francois Jolin was living with in the 1910 US Federal Census who had been married for 19 years. According to that census, Francois immigrated to the US in 1903. Since the 1910 US Federal Census responses reflected the individual's status as of April 15, 1910, Francois died after that date. Since he would have been 82 years old on September 29, 1910, there is a high probability that he died in Biddeford. Unfortunately, his death record cannot be found.
