Frank Michael Fusinato Jr., 85, of 200 E. Second St., Spring Valley died at 1:15 p.m. Jan. 10, 2002, in Heritage Manor, Peru.

Services will be at 9:20 a.m. Monday in Barto Funeral Home, Spring Valley, with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at St.. Anthony Church, Spring Valley. The Rev. Bruce Lopez will officiate. Burial will be at Valley Memorial Park, Spring Valley.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home, with the American Legion memorial service at 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30.

Mr. Fusinato was born May 23, 1916, in Putnam County to Frank M. and Mary (Cambruzzi) Fusinato. He married Rose Tognazzi on Jan. 29, 1945, in St. Anthony Catholic Church, Spring Valley.

He served in World War II in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in the North Pacific from 1940 to 1943. He was at the Battle of Attu, bombing of Dutch Harbor, Alaska. He earned the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Medal with one Bronze Star, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal with two Bronze Stars, European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Medal and the Purple Heart. He was seriously wounded in the fighting on Attu, off the coast of Alaska in the Aleutian Islands. He received an honorable medical discharge in 1943.

He also was in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was a Western Sand and Gravel employee for 35 years. Later, he became active in politics and was Hall Township Clerk from 1957 to 1973. He was a Spring Valley alderman 1976-1983 and a precinct committeeman for 15 years.

He was a Spring Valley firefighter for 25 years; past commander of the Spring Valley American Legion, past president and charter member of Rice River Boys, president and treasurer of Gobbler's Knob and vice president of the Sportsman's Club in Spring Valley.

He was a retired member of Teamsters Local 722, life member of the VFW and a member of Illinois Police Association and Illinois Sheriff Association, St. Anthony's Church, John Bosco Association, Hall Booster Club and the Early Settlers Club of Spring Valley.

Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Mary Lou (Roger) Garland of Tiskilwa and Lorie Corsolini of Ft. Myers, Fla.; two sisters, Lena Kuffel of Heritage Manor, Peru, Norma (Ronald) Reese of Peru and Betty (John) Chambers of Peru; two brothers, John (Eleanor) Fusinato of Peru and Albert (Barbara) Fusinato of Dalzell; five grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Memorials may be directed to St. Anthony's Church, Spring Valley Volunteer Fire Department and Spring Valley American Legion.
