About Frank Emil Smith

Dad was born in Milbank, SD and moved with his folks to homestead a farm south of Lemmon around the turn of the 20th century. He helped farm the land until he went into the service in 1918 and was stationed in France. He returned home to the farm where he later met and married my Della Julia Barone. Prior to their marriage Mom was working for my grandparents on the farm. Dad took over the farm sometime after their marriage and worked it until 1955 when he got hurt. The family sold the farm to my Dad's brother Ervin Smith and we moved into town and bought and ran the Palace Hotel until 1959. The family moved to Miles City that same year and Dad was getting sicker and eventually was taken to the VA Hospital in Miles City where he passed away when his lungs collapsed. His funeral was held in Miles City and he is buried in Lemmon, SD.
