About Frank Joseph Soboleski

Frank Joseph Soboleski, 91, of International Falls, MN, passed away on Monday, May 22, 2017 at his Gold Shores lake home. He was born at “Liberty Addition” in International Falls on June 18, 1925.

He attended St. Thomas School and other schools in San Diego, CA.

During WWII Frank served from February 2, 1944 through January 18, 1946 in E (Easy) Company U.S. Army 101 Paratrooper Division in the European Theater. Frank received many medals and high recognition for his unwavering bravery while fighting for his country. Frank received two purple hearts, a gold star, and a silver star. As a highly decorated WWII hero, Frank and the family enjoyed a once in a lifetime trip to France. On D-Day (6/6/2000) HBO was rolling out the new mini-series “Band of Brothers” and the men of easy company were treated like kings by the film company. Frank, Renee, and family enjoyed many other “Band of Brothers” events including a trip to the Emmy’s in Los Angeles, CA.

Frank was a skilled carpenter. He worked at Mando/Boise Cascade in the Insulite Division after the war. Frank enjoyed his coworkers while working on the loading dock. His story telling abilities and demeanor often times made work not seem like work at all. He returned to the construction trades after the Insulite closed. Frank was a hard worker and he was able to instill a strong work ethic in his children.

Frank did everything that most family orientated folk’s do; golf, square dance, snowmobile, card parties, but he really enjoyed the outdoors. Frank was an extreme example of what one may call a “rugged outdoors-man”. He was a very successful trapper. Frank and his trapping buddies had some very harrowing tales of near-miss adventures. He was known for some of the nicest super blanket beaver skins, as well as lynx, mink, muskrat, others, and duck… yes, duck! Frank had the uncanny ability to find and kill the biggest, gnarliest bucks in the Birchdale swamps. Frank probably enjoyed fishing as his favorite sport. As a family, everyone would go out bobber fishing at Harve’s Hole or the South Shore of Black Bay. Frank enjoyed family time up to Mike’s Shoal Lake Fish Camp, and Red Gut Bay. One of his latest hobbies was a combination of carpentry, trapping, and hunting entitled “Frank’s Critter Creations” depicting traps, horns, and other wildlife on old barn board. Frank certainly had an imagination.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Mary (Cezelnicki) Soboleski; brothers, Karl, Stanley, and Victor Soboleski; sisters, Sophie Soboleski, Helen (Ed) Karsnia, Mary (Oscar) Stavseth, Madeline Soboleski, Emily (Chet) Everette, Pauline (Frances) Peterson, Rose (Virgil) Kluge, Lois (Ben) Glowack; son, Allan Soboleski; first wife, Bertha Soboleski; wife, Renee Soboleski.

He is survived by sons: Patrick (Charlotte), Michael, Timothy (Katherine); daughter, Susan Bolint; grandchildren, Nicole Soboleski, Jennifer (Johnathan) Kimbrough, Andrew (Katelyn) Bolint, and Alexa Soboleski; a great-granddaughter; brothers: Edward, Joseph; brother-in-law, Virgil Kluge; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; families of Renee Soboleski's daughters.
