"Funeral services for Fred H. Fortson, 55, of 93 Adair Ave., S.W., will be held at 2 pm Wed., at Spring Hill. The Rev. T. H. Shackleford will officiate. Burial will be in West View cemetery.

"Mr. Fortson died Monday at a private hospital. He was an employee of the Railway Express Co. for over 30 years and at the time of his death was a rate clerk. Born in Elbert county, he had lived in Atlanta since 1914.

"His church membership was at the Dewy Rose Baptist church. He was a veteran of World War I. Survivors are his wife, a daughter Mrs. Leo J. Adamczyk of Atlanta; four sisters, Mrs. Clarence Vickery of Atlanta; Mrs. L. D. Hewell of Elberton; Mrs. Leon Eavenson of Conley; Miss Sallie Lou Fortson of New York City; and three brothers, T. J., W. A., and G. H. Fortson, all of Atlanta."

Mize (1872-1942). He served for two years in World War I in France and Germany as an ammunition carrier. His daughter Bettie Fortson was married to Major Leo J. Adamczyk, US Army.]

Fred Hall Fortson was born on 18 Mar 1893 in Elbert Co., GA, the son of Asa Chandler Fortson and Louisa Catherine Hall of Goss, Elbert Co. He moved to Atlanta in 1914 with his widowed mother and sisters Edna and Sallie Lou. He entered the U. S. Army on 27 April 1918 at Camp Gordon, GA, first saw service with the 157 Depot Brigade, then transferred to the 307 Ammunition Train, 82nd Division and served as an ammunition carrier in France and Germany. He was discharged at Camp Gordon, GA on 19 May 1919. He married in 1922 to Mary Bond, daughter of Mark Reeves Bond and Alice A.Mize. Fred and Mary had one daughter Bettie Fortson who was married to Major Leo Adamczyk, US Army. Fred had been employed by the Railway Express Agency in Atlanta for over 30 years when he died on 26 Apr 1948 in Atlanta.
