Fred was born in Juliaetta, Idaho after his family had moved from the south. It is unknown, at this time why he and Clara moved to Sedro-Woolley. It is likely that they were following work. It was recently discovered that Fred was a twin. His infant brother, Eddy, died at the age of seven months. It is interesting to see that Fred and Clara named a child Ed, likely in his honor. They later named a son Fred as well. His twin is buried in Idaho in the Yellow Rose Cemetery, aka Ross Cemetery.
