In the Aurelia centennial publication, Christian Buddenhagen was said to be one of a number of families that came from Monee and Breacher, IL in 1875-77 to make their homes in the Afton township north of Aurelia. These families formed the initial congregation of the Immanuel Lutheran Church there--about nine miles northeast of Aurelia.
