About Frederick Augusta Kennedy
Frederick A. Kennedy was the sole proprietor of a grocery store located at 117 N Jackson Street in Jackson, MI. He came to Jackson from the New York area in 1865 and started out as a grocery clerk for Ford, Delamater & Company, earning a salary of $2.00 per week. In the fall of 1873 he bought out his former employer and by 1881 the store did a general retail business of $20,000 a year. Because he did well in business, he acquired several properties and a hugh inventory of antiques that were all stored in a home located on East Michigan Avenue.
He married Miss Isabel Warren of Tekonsha, Michigan, and when she became ill, he hired Nellie as her care taker who later became his second wife. He had 2-children late in life and never lived to know any of his grandchildren. His only Son, Frank coninued on in expanding the family business.
