About Frederick Robert Towers

GEDCOM Note

Frederick's father is unknown, but he grew up bearing his mother's married name of Towers. Her husband Christopher, had died six years prior to Frederick's birth. It appears, Frederick did not know his situation as the wedding notice placed in both the Age and the Leader newspapers in November 1886 stated he was the youngest son of C. Towers. Later, he may have been required to produce his birth certificate where he saw his parentage or his mother may have informed him before her death, whichever the case Frederick seems to have become away that Christopher was not his father. An indication of this is in the notice Frederick placed in the Age newspaper for his Silver wedding anniversary. It was identical to his original wedding notice, except that in this notice he stated he was the youngest son of Unity Towers.

Frederick was a Grocer by occupation.

He and Agnes were married at St George's Presbyterian Church, East St Kilda by the Rev. John Gordon Mackie.

In 1911, when Frederick published notice of their Silver Wedding anniversary in the Age newspaper, he listed their present address as Lilly Villa, 162 Amess Street, North Carlton. By 1914, Frederick and Agnes had moved their home to 22 Violet Street, Essendon, which was just around the corner from their son Frederick Robert and his wife Eva at 15 Miller Street.

They remained at Essendon, having close contact with their grandchildren, Iris and Nancy, until about 1930 when they moved to 110 Gordon Street, Coburg.

He was 88 years old when he died.
