About Friedel Anna Maria Czizek (Maria Holst)

She attended the theatre school in Prague, the Comédie Française in Paris and the Max Reinhardt-Seminar in Vienna. She debuted at the Landestheater in Linz in 1935 and the next year she moved to the Theater an der Wien in Vienna. In 1937 she performed at the Stadttheater in Brünn and in 1938 she was engaged at the Burgtheater in Vienna.

In 1939 she left for Berlin and Munich, returning to the Burgtheater afterwards and staying there until 1945. In 1940 Willy Forst selected her for the part of Marie Geistinger in the succesful movie "Operette". In 1942 she appeared in Forst's movie version of "Wiener Blut", the operetta by Strauss. In 1944 she married the painter Eugen Graf Ledebur.

After the war she was on the stage in Vienna, Stuttgart, Bad Hersfeld and Berlin. From 1949 onwards she made many more movies. She divorced Ledebur and her second husband was Dr. Rudolf Röttgers (1919-1976) from Berlin. With him she had a daughter in 1957, Elisabeth. Her last movie was "Lockvogel der Nacht" (1959). After that she only worked for the theatre. She died tragically when she choked on a meal in 1980.
