Firstborn of the marriage formed by Fernán Gómez de Toledo, deprived of the Queen Regent Maria de Molina and of Ferdinand IV, major notary of the Kingdom of Toledo, and Teresa Vázquez de Acuña, Aya of the future king Peter I. By family influence, the men of the lineage entered the service of the House of the Infante, occupying high courteous offices during the reign of Pierre I. His brothers were Gutierre Fernandez de Toledo, senior guard and senior pastry, Pedro Suárez de Toledo, King's waiter, and the Archbishop of Toledo Vasco Fernandez.

His political life began in the municipality, in 1322, exercising as senior sheriff of the city.
