First-born of the marriage formed by Fernán Gómez de Toledo, deprived of the regent queen María de Molina and Fernando IV, senior notary of the Kingdom of Toledo, and Teresa Vázquez de Acuña, nurse of the future king Pedro I. Due to family influence, the men of the lineage entered the service of the infant's house, occupying high court offices during the reign of Pedro I. His brothers were Gutierre Fernández de Toledo, senior guard and chief pastry chef, Pedro Suárez de Toledo, chief waiter of the King, and the archbishop of Toledo Vasco Fernández.

His political life began in the municipality in 1322, serving as mayor of the city. He was a vassal of Juan son of the infant Juan Manuel, who favored him with a donation of 10,000 maravedís to rebuild his manor houses in the collation of San Antolín de Toledo. Ten years later, he was settled in the Court of Alfonso XI and was armed, along with his brothers, a knight of the Order of the Royal Band of Castile, during the coronation of the King in Burgos.

He was part, along with his relatives, of the house of the Infante Pedro, and was appointed, in the accession of the King to the Throne, major butler, charged as such to collect the King's yantares that were pending, so necessary for the budgetary balance of the royal house. He held the office for two years, since he died in 1352, being buried in the family funeral chapel of the disappeared parish of San Antolín de Toledo.

He married Teresa Alfón, daughter of Diego García de Toledo, his father's companion, also private and ambassador of Fernando IV and mayor of Toledo; had a numerous offspring.
