About Gabrelia (Gala) Ann Quincy
Dictated by Ephraim Butler Moulton to his cousin (by marriage) Megda Dunham Hawkins. Megda's copy of the dictation in the collection of Erika White Dyson.
Grandma Quincy = Gabrelia Ann Kelley Quincy, nee Chase, Mr 7, 1841-Sp 6 1924
"Grandma Quincy, on Christmas evening, 1923, contributed to the enterainment by giving some recollections of girlhood. She was the daughter of Warren Chase [Jr.], who was a seafaring man. He had a brother Daniel, and they made many trips between the North and the South, carrying different kind of cargoes, and particularly lumber. Captin Chase was noted for his ability as a dancer, a fact which is of importance in view of a part it played on one occasion when Warren Chase was shipwrecked. He and his crew, which included his brothe raniel, left the Cape and were wrecked at a point which Grandma Quincy could not recollect. All of the crew were lost except Warren Chase and his brother. The last recollection which he had of seing his brother alive was when he told his brother to keep dancing a he was doing, in order to keep warm. A vessel headed for New Orleans picked Warren Chase up, but at the time he was out of his mind, and remained so for some period of time after arriving at New Orleans. Finally, he recovered, and his family was notified of the wreck and his survival. Warren Chase died when Grandma Quincy was twelve years old. . . . "
