Garius Swift

They sailed from Southahmpton, England with their two eldest sons in a sail boat. My grandmother had a kitchen chair to sit on along with two steamer trunks. I remember the chair and trunks in our home.

They arrived in Halifax April 8, 1849 and journed by stage coach to Brantford, Can. Mr. A. Ekockshut sponsored them to Canada. They settled on land 1 mile north, 1 1/2 mile east of the hamlet of Boston. They were granted 67 acres of land from the Crown wich had a log and frame small house. This was in Townsend Twsp.

It stood just west of the original farm house that still stands today. The big hip roof barn has since burnt.

Grandfather worked for the Ekchskutt Plough Co. of Brantford. He travelled around the country with horse and rig selling farm implements to farmers.

They raised 6 boys and two girls.
