Gary Keith Akre

Gary K. Akre, age 79 of Grand Rapids, MN passed away January 13, 2013 at his winter home in Bradenton, Florida.

Gary was employed for 46 years at Blandin Paper Mill. He also served on the Grand Rapids City Council for 20 years and was the President of Range Association of Municipalities and Schools. Gary was known for his storytelling and quick wit. As an avid hunter and fisherman, Gary’s passion was the outdoors, and he loved spending time at his cabin in Mizpah with his family and friends. As our husband, father, grandfather and friend, you will live in our hearts forever.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Joseph and Irene Akre; five brothers; and five sisters.

Gary is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marilyn; four children, Vicki (Bill) Norton of Roseville, MN, Kathleen (Jim) Desnoyers of Grand Rapids, MN, Joseph (Susan) Akre of Grand Rapids, MN, and Michelle (Jim) Hall of Coon Rapids, MN; and thirty grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Saturday, May 25th from 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grand Rapids
