Evidence from the National Records of Scotland
7 February 1587-88: Charter by which James VI, King of Scots, confirms a quitclaim of certain property within the burgh of Lanark in favour of James Lockhart son and apparent heir of James Lockhart of Lee, senior: "Jacobo Lokkert filio et heredi apparenti Jacobi L. de Lie senioris." The property quitclaimed included a croft which Gavin Lockhart, burgess of Lanark, held in feu ferme from the monks of Dryburgh. Gavin Lockhart was the brother german of James Lockhart of Lee junior.
