Willard Ames Holbrook was a Major General in the United States Army.
Biography
Holbrook was born on July 23, 1860 in Arkansaw, Wisconsin. In 1902 he would marry Josephine Stanley, daughter of Major General David S. Stanley. His brother, Lucius would also serve as a Major General. His son, Willard, Jr, would serve as Brigadier General. Another son, David, would serve as a First Lieutenant and died in 1926. On July 18, 1932 Holbrook died at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.. He, along with Josephine and David, is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
Career
Holbrook graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1885 and assigned to the 1st Cavalry Regiment. Later he would be assigned to the 7th Cavalry Regiment. During the Spanish-American War Holbrook would be stationed in Cuba. From 1901 to 1902, Holbrook served as Civil Governor of Antique. During World War I Holbrook would command the 165th Infantry Brigade and the 9th Infantry Division. Holbrook's final assignment was as Chief of the U.S. Cavalry. His retirement was effective as of July 23, 1924.
Awards he received include the Army Distinguished Service Medal.
