1976 August 29 - Delta Democrat Times - Mrs.'G. W. Payne Funeral services for Mrs. Genevieve Wheatley Payne. 74, of 220 S. Broadway St., Greenville, were held at 3 p.m. Saturday in St. James Episcopal Church in Greenville. Rev. Reynolds S. Cheney II officiated. Burial followed in Greenville Cemetery with National Funeral Home of Greenville In charge. Mrs. Payne died Thursday in Delta Medical Center after a lengthy Illness. A native of Greenville, Mrs. Payne was the daughter of the late George Wheatley and Mary Louise Yerger Wheatley. She was a graduate of Greenville High School and attended the National Cathedral School in Washington, D. C. Mrs. Payne was a charter member of the Greenville Junior Auxiliary and was a member of the Greenville Cemetery Association Board. She was a communicant of St. James Episcopal Church in Greenville and was a lifelong resident of Greenville. Survivors are a son, William Payne of Greenville; a daughter, Mrs. Spencer Montgomery of Natchez; six grandchildren ; and a great-grandchild.
