About George Heinrich Stroebel, SV/PROG

STROEBEL or STROBEL GEORG HEINRICH (S Strobel). – Hünern. Arr. 1764 as so., farmhand 1769-79, b. 1779. ~ 27.10.1776 Martha Botha. 13 children. (GMR 1764-68; CJ 1153a: 27; CJ 1155: 35; Rq. 1779: 22; G.R. nr. 934.)

- Dr. J. Hoge, Personalia of the Germans at the Cape, 1652-1806, Archives Year Book for South African History (Cape Town: Government Printer, Union of South Africa, 1946)

NB - There is no evidence whatsoever that he was ever married to a Pienaar lady. All the children were brought to church for their baptism by George Heinrich Stroebel and Martha Botha - finally confirmed by the baptism of the last child Johannes Christoffel on 16 Oct 1803. NB - We've also been deceived by a careless transcription mistake in SAG... There was NO b3 Cornelia Magdalena born c. 1779. There is only one Cornelia Magdalena baptised in 1797. [Note 1779 and 1797!!] Hence they had 14 children, NOT 15.
