7 January 1726: Disposition by Sir James Grant of that ilk, Sir Colin Mackenzie of Coull, advocate, Alexander Cunningham of Craigends and George Houston of Johnstoun in favour of Mungo Graham, his heirs and assignees, of the £10 land of Auchencloich lying in the parish of Easter Kilpatrick and sheriffdom of Dumbarton, extending to the superiority of the said lands but not to the property of the same which belongs to the Duke of Montrose. Following on disposition for relief by the deceased Sir John Houston of that ilk in favour of Sir James Grant of that ilk, Sir Colin Mackenzie of Coull, advocate, Alexander Cunningham of Craigends, George Houston of Johnstoun and the deceased George Houston, merchant in Glasgow, of the lands and barony of Houston comprehending therein the £10 land of Auchencloich and superiority thereof in lieu of several very considerable sums for which they and the deceased George Houston stood bound to several persons for the said Sir John Houston last deceased, and deceased Sir John Houston, his father. And as standing infeft in the barony of Houston for their security and relief by virtue of a charter by the Prince and Stewart of Scotland, proceeding on a resignation by virtue of the foresaid disposition for relief, and as creditors ranked and preferred upon the price of the superiority of the said £10 land of Auchencloich by decreet of ranking in manner therein specified. Narrating the disposition of relief with the whole grounds for debt for security whereof the same was granted and diligences, with the decreet of ranking of the creditors of the deceased Sir John Houston, whereby Lady Ann Houston, relict of the deceased Sir John Houston was preferred (1) upon the whole lands which belonged to the deceased Sir John Houston father and son and price thereof for payment to her of an annuity therein mentioned and allowing the purchasers to retain a certain sum therein specified for payment of the annuity; and by which decreet Sir James Grant, Sir Colin Mackenzie, Alexander Cunningham and George Houston were preferred upon the lands and barony of Colquhoun and superiority of Auchencloich (2) for payment to them of the sums mentioned and contained in the disposition of relief in their favours, and that Sir John Shaw of Greenock, purchaser of the lands and barony of Houston was allowed to retain the whole sum before mentioned allowed to remain in the purchasers hands for payment of the Lady Ann Houston's annuity; and that three of the disponers by Sir John Houston last deceased are declared by the disposition to be a quorum and that the other creditors before preferred are upon payment to them of the sums for which they are preferred conform to the decreet to transmit to the purchasers their several debts and diligences with absolute warrandice to the extent of what they should receive for the security of the respective purchasers. Subsuming that Mungo Graham of Gorthy in compliance with his offer made at the roup and for fulfilling of his enactment and bond of cautionry granted by him and George Robertson, writer in Edinburgh, his cautioner, and in obedience to the decreet of ranking, whereby he is ordained to pay the price of the superiority of Auchencloich bought by him to them as preferable creditors had made payment to them of the sum of £15,502 3s 4d and annualrents thereof resting from Whitsunday 1724. 17 June 1731: Extract registered assignation, dated 19 March 1731, by Captain Charles Ross, late of Cloak, Elizabeth McDougall, his spouse, in the event of her surviving him without children of the marriage alive at his death, of the sum of 1000 merks scot contained in a bond, dated 20 November 1730, by James Carnegy of Phinhaven and George Jamison, candlemaker and a bailie of the Canongate, in favour of said Charles Ross and spouse, of the annualrents on all sums of money due to him in fee, and liferented by his said spouse, an of th rents of all lands etc. pertaining to him at his death, of the annualrents resting owing at his death on a principal sum of 7,000 merks scots contained in a bond, dated 18 September 1822, by James Grant of Grant, Sir Colin Mackenzie of Coul advocate, Alexander Cunningham of Craigend, George Houston of Johnston and deceased George Houston, merchant in Glasgow, to him and his spouse, for her liferent use only, of all rents of the tenement on the south side of the High Streets of Edinburgh, pertaining to the said Elizabeth McDougall, resting owing at his death, and of 700 merks of the said principal sum of 7,000 merks, following on GD7/2/99.
