George Maurice Berrian

George Maurice was born on February 7, 1901 in Bronx, NY. His mother Marie did not fair very well from the child birth and passed away 2 weeks later on February 22, 1901. For reasons not known, George was raised for the rest of his childhood by his grandparents, Rudolph and Mary Berrian. At the time of the 1910 Census, George was 9 and living with his grandparents at 704 Morris Park Avenue in the Bronx. His grandfather was 63 and his grandmother was 66 and they had been married for 38 years. Both grandparents were born in the US. Rudolph was a watchman for a private police company at that time. At the time of the 1920 Census, George was almost 19 and was still living with his grandparents. At that time, his grandfather was a librarian with the 3rd Avenue Railroad and George was a switchman with the same railroad. George married Jane Veronica Simms on July 10, 1924 in St Aloysius Church, 219 W 132nd St, NY, NY.

At the time of the 1930 Census (4/17/1930), George (28) and Jane (24) were married for about 6 years and rented a home at 101 Pilot Street, City Island - Bronx NY. They had 2 boys - George Rudolph age 4 years 6 months, born September 12, 1925 and Thomas Patrick age 3 years 1 month, born March 27, 1927. The family had 2 lodgers who live with them - Robert Burton, 33 - occupation, painter at the shipyard and Henry Jones, 21 - occupation ship builder. At this time George Maurice was a chauffeur of a taxi cab. George and Jane later had a 3rd son named Edwin Joseph, born March 7, 1931.
