About George Thomas Morrow
This story appeared in the Sand Mountain Reporter, an Albertville , Al Newspaper. George T. Morrow by youngest son, Joe Wood Morrow
George Morrow, was born in Ireland in 1834. He came to the U.S.with his parents, brothers and sister. After living in North Carolina and at Nashville, they came to Alabama and settled at Warrenton. The above information was from an interview by his youngest son from his second marriage, some sources show George T. as being born in Guntersville, Marshall County, Alabama, so it is believed to be an earlier George Morrow, possibly a grandfather or great grandfather of George Thomas who came to the U.S. with his parents. George had 6 or 7 children by his first wife, that was before the Civil War. He entered the Confederate Army in 1861 at the age of 27. When he left service in 1864 his wife had died and he couldn't find any of their children. George T was a Sgt. in Company D, Alabama Infantry CSA, a member of Capt. Fletcher's Company of Marshall Co., Alabama. Entered in at Nashville January 1861 or 62, mustered out May of 1964 . He married Mary Padgett, who had grown up around Union Grove and Arab, Alabama. They farmed at the top of Brindlee Mountain, then in Long Hollow, then at Pleasant Grove, then on Georgia Mountain and then back at Pleasant Grove. They had 12 children. He lived through 2 more wars, the Spanish-American and World War I. He died at Pleasant Grove in 1919 at the age of 86. He never did see any of his first set of children after the Civil War , but his youngest son, Joe did. Joe Wood was living in Paducah, Kentucky, when he heard about a man living there that he thought might be one of his half-brother's, so he looked him up and sure enough, he was. They had a nice visit but never got together again after that. George T bought 39.87 acres of land in Marshall County, Alabama on May 17, 1884 and later 78.87 1/2 acres. He drew a pension for his service in the war listed in the Pension Book of January 30, 1917 so this source shows him alive at that time. The next list to come was January 1922 and he was not on it, so his death occured between 1917 and 1922. His grave stone has no date on it.
