Richard Scott (1605–1679) was an early settler of Providence in the Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. He received a bequest from his brother, George Scott, of London, merchant, in his will dated September 9, 1640, and proved April 22, 1642, in which reference is made to their father, Edward Scott, of Clemsford [sic: Glemsford] county Suffolk, England. (See New England Genealogical Register, page 254, Vol. LI).
