By 1644 a group of early settlers of Concord, MA were upset about the taxing policies of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. By the summer of 1644, sixteen families sold their land and moved to Fairfield, CT. Heads of these families were: William BATEMAN, James BENNETT, Daniel BULKLEY, Thomas BULKLEY, John EVARTS, Peter JOHNSON, Rev. John JONES, Thomas JONES, Richard LATTIN, Joseph MIDDLEBROOK, William ODELL, George SQUIRE, John THOMKINS, Ephraim WHEELER and Thomas WHEELER Jr.
George Squire in 1685 was named as one of the proprietors of the Township of Fairfield to whom the "The Fairfield Patent" was granted.
