About George Charles Swain

Father of David Lowry Swain George Swain was born in Roxborough, MA on June 17, 1763. He died in Buncombe County, N.C. on December 24, 1829.

George Swain was Postmaster, Academy Trustee, hatmaker and self-taught physician. Before moving to North Carolina, he was a member of the Georgia Legislature in the late 1700s.

He was the father of Governor and University President David Lowry Swain.
