Funeral services for George Wesley Thomas, 70, who died in the Veterans Hospital in Boise, Idaho on Oct. 29, 1963 were held Saturday, Nov. 2 at Bey Chapel. Rev. Grace Weaver officiated. Military rites were held at the graveside in Glenns Ferry Rest cemetery. Active bearers were Martin Woodward, Thomas Chafin, Lewis Clark, Karl Carnahan, Hallie McKee and Lee Trail. Honorary bearers were Mike Garner, Ernie Hobart, Clyde Parks, Lloyd Birgess, Roy Watkins, and Main Morgan.

Mr. Thomas son of N.B. and Celia Bonham Thomas was born Aug. 20, 1893 at Mount Hope, Kansas. His father ran the race for a homestead in the famous Cherokee Strip in the Oklahoma Territory which is near Manchester, OK. George and his mother came about a month later. He filed and proved a 320 acre claim in 1917 at Trinchera, CO, then he enlisted in the U. S. Army and served in France. He was a private in Co. A 129 Machine Gun Battalion in WW I.

On Oct. 16, 1919 he was united in marriage to Elsie Dotson at Anthony, KS. To this union was born three daughters. He farmed for 20 years in Kansas and in 1940 moved to Idaho. He was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad retiring in 1958. He was associated with the Methodist Church and a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and V. W. 1 Barracks.

Survivors in addition to his wife Elsie of Glenns Ferry, include three daughters: Mrs. Harlon Hibbard (Pearl) of Harper, KS; Mrs. Albert Rue (Dora) of Jerome, ID; and Mrs. Marvin Wootan (Dorothy) of Glenns Ferry, ID; two sisters: Mrs. Ethel Ricker of Coldwater, KS; and Mrs. May Crist of Hagerman, ID; four brothers: Daniel of Anthony, KS; Elmer of Salt Lake City, Utah; Noah of Lomita, CA; and Oliver of Jerome, ID; seven grandchildren and a host of friends.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Apr 20 2022, 20:34:04 UTC
