On 23 July 1827 lands of George Turman were ordered partitioned for a one third dower to his widow Violetty Turman and which included the "mansion, outhouses and improvements." On 25 July 1827 this dower was specified as 147 and 3/10s acres adjoining lands of John Hall, Oglesby, heirs of John White and heirs of Geo. Turman.
[Submitters notes: There were other George Turmans in early Elbert Co., i. e. the one whose Will was recorded on 7 Jun 1806 and the one who was a son of a Thomas Turman. This estate record is that of the George Turman who was the son of Martin Turman and Nancy "Nanny" Ann Herndon, daughter of John Herndon. See Will of John Herndon 16 Nov 1785, Charlotte Co., VA Wills 1765-1791, page 122; See Wilkes Co., GA Deed Book GG, page 175; See Elbert Co. Deed Book E, page 115, where Martin Turman and wife Nancy give 143 1/2 acres to his "son" George Turman and Deed Book G, page 59, where George Turman and wife Viletta sell 143 1/2 acres; See Will of Martin Turman, signed 8 Jul 1824 in Walton Co., GA.]
Proof that George was the son of Martin and Ann "Nancy"(Herndon) Tureman comes through the following land deeds abstracted by Michal Martin Farmer (it is the same land and ties this George to Martin):
Elbert Co., Ga., Deed Book E, 1798-1799, p. 115: Martin Turman & Nancy, his wife, to George Turman.
