George Washington Conger was born on May 29, 1850 in Valdosta, Lowndes, Georgia, a son of Abraham Hayes Conger and Aurena "Rennie" (Willis) Conger. He was the brother of James B., William B., Nancy H., Charles Clayton, Barney William, Sarah Luvenia and Abraham "Shabe" Benjamin Conger. Later in life, he was known as "Pappy".

On Feb 25, 1874 (a), George W. Conger, age 23, married Martha Elizabeth Goff, age 15, performed by John B. Higdon, Notary Public. They were the parents of 21 children (b) including Bristol Ero (1874); James M (1876); William Lynch (1876); Reason S (1878); John Benjamin (1879); Abraham "Abe or Abram" C. (1880); George Washington, Jr. (1882); Demsey E (1883); Infant Girl (1884); Lulu G. (1885); Lettie Lee (1886); Jehu R. (1888); Euna C. (1890); Elijah F. (1892); Elbert Jackson (1893); Thomas Kibien (1895); Lucy A. (1896); Warren E. (1898); Infant girl (1899); Washington Columbus (1900) and Keith Carson Conger (1904).

He was a Justice of the Peace, farmer, cattleman, lumberman, and raised sheep. Also, he was a Notary Public and performed wedding ceremonies as he did on Feb. 28, 1897 for Edward Henderson and Annie Young.

On January 12, 1934, George Washington Conger, age 83, died in Tifton and buried in the Zion Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, Tifton, Tift County, Georgia.
