Brother of Elizabeth Williams Archer, wife of William B. Archer, as evidenced by memoirs of their descendant Matilda Archer. While some trees position George and Elizabeth as children of Jones Williams and Elizabeth Ledbetter, more evidence is needed. I've tentatively put them as his parents on the tree.
GEORGE WILLIAMS (c 1770-1869)
George and Abigail Williams are buried in a small cemetery near the Perry Coggins residence (off Erskine Road, near Harmon field) in Tryon, NC.
George Williams is often discussed as having been "English gentry." He settled in the Pacolet River Valley near Tryon, NC, before the Revolutionary War.
Land grants and deeds to Williams are in the Rutherford County Courthouse.
In the 1860 slave schedule for Polk County, NC, George Williams owned 12 slaves.
Listed in 1770 in Old Tryon County NC:

W452 WILLIAMS Jonas 1770 TRYON Co. NC No Twp. Listed
Is this the same George Williams? Could this have been the father of our George??:

George Williams came from England, was of English Gentry; married Abigail Braden-- "George Williams married one of the Braden girls, a sister of Karen Happuch Braden. The Braden family owned the land around Tryon, including the Anna Ballanger homestead. George Williams succeeded Mr. Braden, his Father-in-law, in the ownership of this place." --from family records by Evelyn Weaver Ross. The Williams Family had settled in the Pacolet River Valley before the Revolutionary War.
George and Abigail Williams built a large, beautiful home on their Pacolet River Plantation. After the death of George Williams, it was bought by Mr. Ralph Erskine; later bought by the Donald Wright familiy who live there now (1975). One of the orginal mantels is still in the home. The property is located on the Tryon side of the Tryon Presbyterian Church property. Behind the manse, on top of the hill, is the family cemetery--entered from a narrow dirt road off Erskine Drive -- is now surrounded by a split rail fence. The tombstone of George Williams does not record the date he was born, other than the year.
In the Williams Family Cemetery are many graves now unmarked, but among the marked graves are: John Garrison, Thomas Theodore Ballenger and Thomas Theodore Ballenger, Jr.

Could this have possibly been his father? It's a long shot, but the name George Williams has not been seen so often in NC:
