Anchorage Daily News March 17, 1998 Longtime Palmer resident Georgia Rae Fish, 82, died of heart failure March 4, 1998, at Providence Alaska Medical Center. A funeral was at Kehl's Palmer Mortuary Chapel, 209 S. Alaska St., Palmer. A visitation was held one hour before the service. Interment was at Valley Memorial Gardens. She was born Oct. 22, 1915, in Lincoln, Neb., and grew up on a farm nearby. After her graduation from high school in 1941, she moved to Alaska. She lived and worked in Fairbanks before moving to Palmer in the late 1950s when she and Barney Fish purchased the Thrifty Variety Store from Rex and Lea Ehrhart. She continued to run the store after Barney's death, until she became ill in 1989. She also owned the Tropics Bar and the 49 Club Bar in Palmer. According to her friends, She devoted all of her time to her business. She always enjoyed visiting with her customers about events of the day. She was a very giving friend, and if you were in need she was always there to help. She is survived by her adopted daughter, Jackie Cozad of Great Falls, Mont.; friends, Emil and Louise Waldal of Palmer; and many, many other acquaintances in Alaska. Arrangements were made by Kehl's Palmer Mortuary and Kehl's Forest Lawn in Anchorage.
