About Gerald Wayne Leland
Gerald Wayne "Jerry" Leland, age 90, of Bricelyn, MN died Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN. A funeral service will be held Monday, October 12, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Bricelyn Lutheran Church, officiated by Rev. Nancy Dreier. Visitation will be Sunday, October 11 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Bricelyn, MN, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be at Bricelyn Lutheran Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Bricelyn American Legion Post #165. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Bricelyn is handling the arrangements.
Gerald was born December 22, 1924 in Bricelyn, MN, the son of John and Josephine (Johnson) Leland. Jerry graduated from Bricelyn High School, and then honorably served in the United States Army. After returning home Jerry farmed for a number of years. He was united in marriage to Adeline E. Schulte on February 26, 1955. For 25 years he was the Bricelyn Postmaster. He was a member of Bricelyn Lutheran Church, Community Club, Sportsman's Club, and Bricelyn American Legion Post #165, where he won the Minnesota State Award for Volunteerism. He served as treasurer of the Bricelyn Lutheran Cemetery Board, as well as a volunteer member of the Bricelyn Fire Department. Jerry enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and being in the outdoors. He loved spending time with his family.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Adeline of Bricelyn; 2 daughters: Cheri (Jim) Jacques of Minnetonka, MN; Dawn (Craig) Heino of Taos, NM; son: Steve Leland of Seattle, WA; granddaughters: Josie Heino of Seattle, WA and Lena Heino of Taos, NM; brother Kenny (Della) Leland, Albert Lea, MN; sisters-in-law Ada Leland, Cheyenne, WY, Erma Leland of Bricelyn, MN; many nieces and nephews and their families; and Addie's siblings: Virgina Novak and Gene Schulte of Appleton, MN, and Janice Comelio of Huntington, NY. He is preceded in death by his parents; 7 brothers: Hobert, Edgar, Irving, Leon, Orlando, Alan and Wallace; and 4 sisters: Viola, Marion, Mildred, and Gladys.
