About Gerard Hutt, II
Gerrard's will was dated May 4, 1770 and proven on September 25, 1770. Listed on the will were wife Mary, grandsons William Gerrard Hutt, Joseph, son of Andrew Read {assumed to be son-in-law}, daughter Mary Ann Read, son of Gerrard and his son Gerrard and grandson John, son of William Brown.37 Virginia military records show a Gerrard Hutt, Jr. served in the Westmoreland County militia in 1763 as a Lieutenant, but it is unlikely it is this Gerrard as he would be in his sixties. Son John served Westmoreland County during the French and Indian Wars, and was listed as a soldier in 1756.38 In the will of William Hutt, Gerrard is noted as a Merchant with William at Nominy Ferry, VA. Sons Corbin and Gerrard, III, are listed as receiving land. It is not known the exact relation of William to this family.39
