Mrs. Albert John Hermsen (Gertrude Roling) Sept 10, 1818 - Feb. 21, 1910 Death of Mrs. Gertrude Hermsen Pioneer New Vienna Lady Died Monday Morning Mrs. Gertrude Hermsen, wife of the late Albert Hermsen, died at 5:00 Monday morning at the home of her son John, 3 miles east of New Vienna at the ripe old age of 91 years, 5 months and 11 days. Deceased had been ill only a few days, her death being due to old age. Her maiden name was Gertrude Roli, and she was married to Albert Hermsen in Dubuque, over 60 years ago, having come West from Cincinnati Ohio. Later the family removed to their farm here and have resided here ever since. Her husband preceded her to the grave. The children who are left to mourn her death are: John and Bernard of New Vienna; Anna, wife of Frank Schemmel, of Bancroft Iowa; and Elizabeth, Mrs. Peter Loecke, of Petersburg. Two daughters, Mrs. Lansing of New Vienna and Mrs. Keuter preceded their parents to the grave. The deceased was a woman of unusual virtues in mind and soul and during her long residence here became endeared to her neighbors and friends by her many kind and noble deeds. She was a thorough Christian lady and was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church.
