Gerrit The Elder and Anna Knudsen’s fourth child and eldest son, Gerhardus “Gerrit” Knudsen/Knoetzen (“The Younger”) was baptised 27 November 1746, at Wellington, Western Cape.
Gerrit The Younger married Elizabeth Koen (born 17 November 1748, Paarl, Western Cape) on 11 May 1767 at the Cape. She was the daughter of Johannes Casparus Koen (he was born ca 15 October 1722, Bettviller, Lorraine, France, died May 1772, Tulbagh, Breederiver, Western Cape) and Anne Maria Cordier (she was born 1726, Paarl, Western Cape).
It was in this generation that the Danish spelling of the surname Knudsen starts to disappear from the Cape usage/records and the Dutch Knoetzen/Knoetze prevails. The seventh child of Gerrit the Younger and Elizabeth was Christoparus “Casparus” Knoetze (“Casparus Major”), born in the Langkloof valley, Western Cape and baptised 26 March 1783.
