Rock Rapids, Iowa - Gertie Boeve, age 88 of Rock Rapids, died Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Good Samaritan Center in George, Iowa.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday September 2, 2014 at Christian Reformed Church of Rock Rapids, with Rev. Cliff Hoekstra officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.

Family will be greeting guests from 11:30 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. at the Christian Reformed Church of Rock Rapids. In lieu of flowers family wishes memorials be directed to Good Samaritan Center of George, Iowa.

Gertie Van Holland was born October 3, 1925 in Sioux County, Iowa, to John and Bertha Van Holland. She received her education through the 8th grade. On January 19, 1949, Gertie was united in marriage to Dick Boeve in Hull, Iowa. The couple farmed near Rock Rapids for 8 years before moving northwest of Pipestone, Minnesota, where they lived for 29 years before moving back to Rock Rapids in 1985.

Gertie’s husband Dick passed away in 2008. She was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Rock Rapids and was active in Friendship Bible study and Golden Hour Society. One of her favorite things to do was to visit the elderly. She brought kindness and caring to many over the years.

She is survived by her brother Tom (Marlene) Van Holland of Rock Valley; her sisters-in-law, Darlene Van Holland of Rock Valley and Jeanette Van Holland of McMinnville, Oregon; and brothers-in-law, Dr. Ed Kragt of Rock Rapids and Hank (Helen) Boeve of Rock Rapids; and many nephews and nieces.

Gertie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dick Boeve; brothers, Gerrit Van Holland; Enno Van Holland; Dick Van Holland and John Van Holland, sisters, Tena Van Kekerix, Dora Kooima and Mina Kragt.
