The oldest known ancestor is one Gillion de l'Annoit who lived in the 13th century. Many of his descendants were members of the Order of the Golden Fleece. They played a prominent role in Flanders during the Middle Ages.

The family belonged to the Lannoy already in the fourteenth century to the nobility of the county of Flanders and later the county of Hainaut , and more generally of the Southern Netherlands . 

Several of them played a role as counselors of successive Dukes of Burgundy and Maximilian I of Austria .  They occur among the members of the Order of the Golden Fleece , which took sixteen the Lannoy in its ranks:

Adel Recognition [ edit ] 

Charles de Lannoy (1487-1527), viceroy of Naples , was the first to receive an official titled.  It was in 1526 the Emperor Charles him the title of Count of the Holy Roman Empire awarded, transferable to all his descendants. 

In 1628 it was King Philip IV of Spain who awarded the title of Count Claude de Lannoy de la Motterie. 

More recently, in 1840, was awarded to Napoleon Count de Lannoy-Clervaux the title of Prince of Rheina-Wolbeck.

The descendants of Jacques de Lannoy [ edit ] 

Jacques de Lannoy († 1587), Lord of the Motterie, was the chief of the branches affected by the abolition of the nobility in 1795 and after 1815, at the time of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands were again in the nobility, included.  He was married to Suzanne de Noyelle, and they had two sons, Adrien and Claude. 

Adrien de Lannoy, lord of Wasmes married Honorine Baudin.  François de Lannoy (1608-1693) married in 1637 with the Mechtilde Bergh this Trips.  Charles de Lannoy (1644-1726), married Marie du Bois de Fiennes.  Charles de Lannoy († 1758), Lord of Wattignies, married to Marie le Clément du Vault (1703-1775)  Augustin de Lannoy, Mr de la Rue (° 1743), married to Ferdinande the Franeau d'Hyon.  François de Lannoy (see below). 

Claude de Lannoy, Count de la Motterie married Marie le Vasseur and second marriage to Claudine d'Eltz Baroness, Lady of Clervaux.  Philippe de Lannoy and Motterie († 1658), married to Louise d'Ognies.  François de Lannoy et de la Motterie (1648-1723), married Anne de Gavre.  Eugene de Lannoy et de la Motterie (1684-1755), married to Lambertine du Faing.  Chrétien de Lannoy (see below). 

Albert de Lannoy, baron of Clervaux married Anne de Reede the Hesfeld.  François de Lannoy, married Baroness Anne van der Horst.  Adrien de Lannoy-Clervaux, married Aldegonde de Warnant.  Adrien de Lannoy-Clervaux, married Constance de Wignacourt.  Félix de Lannoy-Clervaux (see below). 

Florent de Lannoy (1760-1836), brother of Félix, married to Clémentine de Looz-Corswarem.  Napoleon de Lannoy (1807-1874), Prince of Rheina-Wolbeck married Marie de Liedekerke Beaufort.  Edgard de Lannoy (1835-1912), married to Marie-Anne Corberon.  Jules de Lannoy-Clervaux (1865-1941), married Marie Anguelcova.  Claude de Lannoy (see below).

The reorganization of the abolished nobility in 1795, several Lannoy were again recognized the hereditary nobility. 

François de Lannoy [ edit ] 

Jacques Adrien François de Lannoy (Tournai, January 10, 1769 - Brussels, January 1, 1835) was a son of the infantry officer Augustin de Lannoy de la Rue (° 1743) and Ferdinande the Franeau d'Hyon.  He married Countess Louise d'Ursel (1775-1834), who was a daughter of the Duke Wolfgang William d'Ursel and Princess Marie-Flore d'Arenberg.  They had three sons, one of them married, and a daughter, who became religious of the Sacred Heart.  His activities during the revolutionary years and the French empire remained modest.  In 1816 he was recognized in the hereditary nobility with the title of Count, transferable to all his descendants, but he refused to go on, and the appointment was canceled.  It did not prevent he obtained a recognition of nobility in 1823 and just on the list of the nobility was registered.  He was also Chamberlain of William I of the Netherlands and mayor of Anvaing .  Gustave de Lannoy (Brussels, August 5, 1800 - Anvaing, 6 November 1892).  He married Countess Charlotte van der Noot d'Assche (1806-1861) and they had three daughters (two became a nun) and two sons.  Charles de Lannoy (1828-1901), mayor of Anvaing, married Emma du Parc (1843-1902).  Philippe de Lannoy (1866-1937) was Grand Marshal of the Belgian Court and grand master of the house of Queen Elizabeth .  He was also mayor of Anvaing.  He married Rosalie de Beeckman (1877-1963) and they had five children.  Paul de Lannoy (1898-1980) was mayor of Anvaing and vice president of the Belgian nobility Association.  He married Princess Beatrix de Ligne (1898-1982) and they had seven children.  Philippe de Lannoy (° 1922) got married to Alix della Faille de LEVERGHEM (1941-2012).  They had eight children.  Stéphanie de Lannoy (° 1984) married in 2012, Hereditary Grand Duke William of Luxembourg (° 1981). 

Chretien de Lannoy [ edit ] 

Chrétien Joseph Ernest Grégoire de Lannoy de la Motterie (1731-1822) was recognized in 1816 in the hereditary nobility.  His marriage to Countess Catherine de Merode (1743-1794) had a daughter, in whom extinguished this branch in 1826. 

Félix de Lannoy [ edit ] 

Félix Balthazar Pierre Adrien de Lannoy (Liege, 3 February 1757-20 May 1827) was a son of Adrien de Lannoy-Clervaux and Constance de Wignacourt.  He married Marie de Berlo-Suys (° 1762).  They had three children, who, however, remained without offspring, so this branch extinguished in 1854.  In 1816 he was on the list of the recorded persons recognized in the hereditary nobility with the title of Count, transferable to all his descendants, and inclusion in the Knighthood of the province of Liège .  Léopold de Lannoy-Clervaux (1783-1841) was mentioned with his father in the first list of recognized nobility. 

Adrien de Lannoy-Clervaux (1783-1854) was also listed on the first list of recognized nobility.  The twins remained childless. 

Claude de Lannoy-Clervaux [ edit ] 

Claude-Désiré de Lannoy-Clervaux (° 1931) obtained in 1980, recognition of hereditary nobility with the title of Count for all his descendants.  His ancestors had failed to do so for four generations to request, with the result until they could no longer be counted among the nobility, even themselves betitelden further as count and though some were married within the high nobility (the Looz- Corswarem and Liedekerke Beaufort). 

Claude married Karen Butler (° 1947) and they had a daughter (1973), which has remained unmarried.  This latest branch is on the way to extinction.
