Gilbert Russell Avery

Gilbert Russell Avery was the son of Constant and Zipporah (Chapman) Avery. He was the husband of Jane (Byrns) Avery.

Obituary Unidentified Newsclipping - 1873 AVERY.--Russell Avery died in Pine Woods, Madison County, New York, June 2, 1873, aged 64 years. Brother Avery experienced a change of heart and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church when quite young. The testimony of those who knew him best is that although his Christian experience was sometimes clouded along the years, his life was uniformly governed by strict Christian principle. About three years before his death he was brought anew into the fullness of experimental religion, and from thence on to the close of his life, his enjoyment was comparatively uninterrupted. During his sickness, in which his sufferings were intense, his victory was complete from the first. Said he in his last hour "When will Jesus remove the veil that I may see him as he is?" "Its growing brighter and brighter!" In his lost moments, after tongue and life were paralyzed in death, by great exertion he whispered, "Jesus is my all in all. He is my sure support;" and immediately expired. May the God of all grace comfort and sustain his bereaved and afflicted family. Written by Rev.
