Career

Giovanni Morassutti began to study acting with Susan Strasberg when he was a teenager. At 18 years old he moved to New York City where he started as an intern to audit and observe the sessions at the Actors Studiofor one year, eventually becoming a student of Salem Ludwig at the HB studio. John Strasberg, son of Lee Strasberg, has been his mentor and Morassutti wrote the preface of the Italian version of Strasberg´s book Accidentally on purpose. Giovanni worked as an actor in several American theatre and film productions directed by Ellen Stewart, founder of La Mama e.t.c., and Gus Van Sant among others. He is a graduate of the National Film School in Rome directed by actor Giancarlo Giannini, and he has been cast in several roles in Italian theatre, cinema and television. As a theatre director he has been directing Italian actress Lydia Biondi and his stagings have been presented at the Cherry Lane Theatre in New York, in Rome and in Milan during the Expo 2015. Giovanni is also the artistic director of Art Aia - Creatives / In / Residence which is an international art residency in northern Italy that focuses on the development of the creative process and facilitates cultural exchange across borders. Giovanni Morassutti currently lives in Berlin where he was cast, among other projects, in For the time being directed by Daniela Lucato that was presented at the 71st edition of the Cannes Film Festival. In Berlin he founded , Art Aia-La Dolce Berlin, which is a project space that hosts artists and artist collectives from all over the world.Giovanni Morassutti is also an experimental artist and curator. He realized a video artwork "Ribolla" which is part of a collection of works from several visual artists pairing wines from Cantina Principi di Porcia with contemporary art. In his art practice he combines action painting, collages and found materials especially photo portraits and plastic fake Eyes . He is influenced by the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat , Julian Schnabel , Jackson Pollock , among others.

Giovanni Morassutti is the son of Benedetto Morassutti and Sabine Piwko. He is the brother of Sofia Morassutti , and grandson of architect Giovanni Morassutti and Maria de Besi. His paternal great grandfather was the Italian entrepreneur Federico Morassutti, a prominent member of the Morassutti family and his great grandmother was Marquise Emilia Buzzaccarini from the aristocratic family of Padua. His maternal grandfaher , Eric Piwko was a German doctor who had Polish ancestry.
