In Elija's census records from the US the family is mentioned as from Lithuania or Latvia. There is only one Eliash son of Girsh (Zvi) on the record, so I assume this is it.

Furthermore, there is only one Lan mentioned in the record in Vabalninkas in the generation before Girsh - which is Geshel. There is no mention of Girsh being the son of Geshel but I am drawing that conclusion - it might be revised if more information comes to light.
