About Gital Paris Eizenberg Beer
Max Beer is the son of Genia (Gitla) Paris Eizenberg Beer and Leo (Leyb) Beer. Genia was born on July 7, 1916 in Radom Poland to Chaim Mordechai and Ruchla Paris. She had two sisters Devora and Freindel and five younger brothers. Both of her parents and all her siblings perished in the Holocaust except for one sister who went to Palestine in the late 1930s. Genia married Israel Einzenberg and had a child when the Holocaust broke out. Both perished. During the war she was incarcerated in the Szarzysko Kamiena labor camp for three years and also in Buchenwald. Leo Beer was born in Uhnow near Lvov. He escaped to the Soviet Union where he served in the army and was wounded during the German attack, losing the use of his left arm. His two brothers and mother perished in the Holocaust but his father, who had immigrated to Canada in the late 1920s survived. After the war, Genia and Leo both made their way to the Pocking displaced persons' camp in the American zone. They married and their son Max was born on May 18, 1947. The three of them immigrated to Canada on January 14, 1949.
