84 of Bridgewater, passed away peacefully on Saturday 25 May 2013 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater with her loving family at her side. Born in Pentz, Lunenburg Co. on August 21, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Capt. Irving and Helen Corkum. Her father’s fishing schooner, the “Gloria may” was named after her. Gloria grew up in Middle LaHave and married he husband Eric on May 25, 1951. For many years she and Eric lived and raised their family at the Bridgewater Post Office, where Eric was the caretaker. In her younger years, Gloria worked as a seamstress at Creaser’s Factory in East LaHave and Bridgewater. She enjoyed sewing, baking, walking, bicycling and skating. She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Middle LaHave and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Bridgewater. She enjoyed attending church services and functions of all denominations. Gloria had many friends at Pineview Apts, where she lived for the past 6 years. Gloria’s family was the most important thing in her life. She is survived by daughters Marilyn (Lorne) Veinot, Ann (Phillip) Joudrey, Darlene (Randy) Slaunwhite, all of Bridgewater; Carolyn (Jeremy) Glanville, White’s lake, Halifax Co.; half-sisters Jean (Paul) Demone, Lunenburg and Vera (Robert) Bruhm, West Northfield; grandchildren Shannon Timmons, Greg Veinot, Liam Glanville; Great grandchildren Jacob Veinot, Brayden and Curran Timmons; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Eric Denton Slauenwhite; sister Sylvia Fralic; brothers Dana Corkum and Gerald Corkum. We, the family of the late Gloria May Slauenwhite, would like to express our sincere thanks to the following – Dr. David Barss and staff, Dr. Johnson, Pineview Apts staff, the South Shore Regional Hospital, all for their excellent medical care; pastor Paul Jensen for his kind and caring words and Sweeny’s Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Bridgewater or any charity of choice. A private family graveside service will be held in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater.
