About Gnr. Delwyn Harold Craig
Delwyn Harold Craig was born at Sydney in New South Wales, Australia, on 18 January 1895, and baptised there on 6 March 1895. His parents were Charles James Craig (1864-1947) and Mary Ann Margaret Craig (nee Allcock) (1867-1946) who had married at Newtown in New South Wales in 1888. The family moved to New Zealand in around 1908, where his youngest brother Bruce Herbert Thomas Craig was born in January 1909. During World War I, Delwyn joined the New Zealand Field Artillery, 6th (Howitzer) Battery. He was serving in France during the Second Battle of the Somme when he was killed in action on 18 September 1918 at the age of 23. Delwyn was buried in the La Chapelette British and Indian Cemetery [III. D. 8.] (bio by Debbie McCauley, 1 July 2022).
