About Gordon Henry Oien

Gordon Henry Oien, 86, of Red Wing, Minnesota and formerly of Warren, Minnesota, died Wednesday, January 7, 2009 in his home at Potter Ridge in Red Wing, Minnesota.

He was born on November 18, 1922, in Hannaford, North Dakota to Henry and Grace (Christianson) Oien. He attended Shelly schools and graduated from Climax High School in Climax, Minnesota. Gordon served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945. He married Lois Leder on April 11, 1948. They lived in Kalispell, Montana, Albert Lea, Minnesota, and moved to Warren, Minnesota where they resided for 49 years. They owned and operated Gordy's Toggery and Warren Dry-Cleaning and Laundromat. Gordon served on the Warren Fire Department for 22 years and was a member of the American Legion #27, Lions Club, and DAV. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Warren, Minnesota and joined Concordia Lutheran Church when he moved to Red Wing in 2002. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include wife, Lois; two children, Jill Oien of Red Wing, and Jon (Stacey) Oien of Las Vegas, Nevada; two grandchildren, Jonathan (Tiffany) Oien of Red Wing, and Jaime (John) Sutherland of Somerset, Wisconsin; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Gus (Arlene) Oien of West Fargo, North Dakota; two sisters, Harriet Starkey of Duluth, and Marion Gilbertson of Halstad, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at the chapel at Potter Ridge, 1971 Neal Street in Red Wing. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at a later date with full military honors at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Funeral arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing.
